Florida mom gives birth to ‘Sumo Baby’ weighing nearly 14 pounds: “He was like a little celebrity”

Move over, average newborns, there’s a new star in the nursery, and his name is Annan.

Born on September 3 at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview, Florida, baby Annan tipped the scales at a jaw-dropping 13 pounds, 15 ounces, about twice the size of an average newborn, leaving hospital staff stunned and his mom speechless.

A Delivery Room Shocker

“What are they pulling out of me?” laughed Daniella Hines, 40, recalling the moment her second child was born via C-section. “I felt so much pressure.”

And when she finally laid eyes on him? “He was so big. I was like, ‘Whose baby is this? He came out of me?’”

Even the nurses were floored. “He was the talk of the maternity ward,” Daniella said.

A Giant Baby With a Giant Personality

Annan, who already fits clothes meant for a 9-month-old, has earned the adorable nickname “Sumo” that his father Andre shared on social media.

“Everybody started coming in. It’s not every day you see an almost 14-pound baby pop out,” the proud mom shared. “He was like a little celebrity.”

A hospital spokesperson said Annan is believed to be among the biggest, if not the biggest, babies ever born at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South, calling him a “big miracle.”

Big Baby, Big Genes

It’s no surprise the baby came out a bit super-sized — Daniella stands at 6 feet tall, while her husband Andre is 6’2″. And this isn’t their first big baby either. Their older son, Andre Jr., made his debut at 12 pounds, 11 ounces.

Still, Annan’s size broke the family record and gave them a whole new to-do list.

“Now the focus is on making sure he stays healthy and taking back all these small clothes and size newborn diapers that won’t fit,” Daniella wrote online.

Internet’s Favorite Baby

Since his birth, baby Annan has become a viral sensation, with fans celebrating his arrival as a “miracle of motherhood” and marveling at his cuddly size. For Daniella, it’s a moment filled with joy, awe, and yes, a lot of laundry.

“Who knew he would be a baby celebrity?” she wrote. “It’s been almost a week, and we’re still in awe.”
