First Major NBA Trade: Caruso to the Thunder and Giddey to the Bulls, who are shopping Zach LaVine now too

Player trade between the Chicago Bulls and the Oklahoma City Thunder involving Alex Caruso and Josh Giddey. LaVine is on the move as well

The Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade the valued Alex Caruso and the rising star Josh Giddey.

The trade, reported by Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN, is one of the first major moves in the NBA market following the end of the season.

HOW DOES THE TRADE LOOK FOR BOTH TEAMS

The Oklahoma City Thunder see Alex Caruso as the player who can help them compete at the highest level, alongside players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren. Last season, the 30-year-old Caruso averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.

Josh Giddey, the 6th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, is one of the most versatile and creative young talents in the league. The 21-year-old Australian forward averaged 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists last season.

ZACH LAVINE ON THE MOVE

According to sources reported by K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, the Chicago Bulls have explored around 15 different trade proposals for Zach LaVine with various teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, and Utah Jazz.

Both LaVine and the Bulls are eager to finalize a trade this offseason. The Bulls are facing a potential luxury tax bill if they re-sign DeMar DeRozan and Patrick Williams without offloading LaVine to save money.

LaVine’s season ended prematurely due to foot surgery before the All-Star break, concluding his 2023-24 season with the Bulls.

In the 2022 offseason, LaVine and the Bulls agreed on a five-year, $215.2 million contract.
