The Azzurri qualify to the EURO after the point obtained against Ukraine; now the risk is to find themselves in the fourth seed at the group stage draw.
With the draw against Ukraine, Italy has qualified for Euro 2024, and immediately begins to think about the draw which is scheduled to be held in Hamburg on December 2nd at 6:00 PM. With the 0-0 in Leverkusen, the chances of ending up in the fourth seed are very high. To remain in the third seed, the Azzurri must hope that Wales beats Turkey or Croatia loses to Armenia.
THE SEEDS (finalized only after Tuesday night’s matches)
Seed 1: Germany, Portugal, France, Spain, Belgium, England
Seed 2: Denmark, Hungary, Austria, Albania, Turkey, Romania
Seed 3: Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, ITALY (Drops down if Croatia makes it to the EURO)
Seed 4: Serbia, Switzerland, the three winners of the playoffs
HOW DOES THE DRAW WORK?
The 24 qualified teams will be divided into 6 groups of 4: in the first seed, there will be the host country Germany and the 5 best group winners. In the second, third seeds, there will be the other five group winners and the second-placed teams. In the fourth seed, there will be three additional teams qualifying through playoffs whose names will be known only in March.
THE RANKING
The ranking for the seeds is compiled according to the following criteria, excluding results against the teams finishing sixth in the qualifying groups (Malta, in the case of the Italy group):
- position in the group;
- the highest number of points;
- goal difference;
- goals scored;
- away goals scored;
- number of victories;
- away victories;
- best fair play conduct (1 point penalty for each caution, 3 points for each expulsion)
- position in the general ranking of the Nations League 2022-23.”
