Dylan Dreyer’s gives a huge update on a battle her family is facing: “I just want my kid to…”

She reports the weather on national TV, but behind the scenes, Dylan Dreyer is fighting for something even bigger: making the world safer for kids like her son Calvin.

The Today Show meteorologist and mom-of-three has become a powerful advocate for families dealing with Celiac Disease. And now, after a recent trip to Fenway Park, Dreyer is sharing a hopeful update that’s resonating far beyond the baseball field.

Ballpark Win, Bigger Message

During a March episode of Today, Dylan opened up about what made her family’s visit to the Red Sox’s Celiac Awareness Night so special.

For once, her son Calvin, diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2023, didn’t need a cooler full of snacks or backup meals. Instead, he got to just be a kid.

“The fact Calvin could just enjoy being at a ballpark like a normal kid… usually I have to pack a ton of food to go anywhere,” Dylan said. “You can’t just get something.”

But on this night? He could. Fenway had rolled out a full lineup of gluten-free treats, and for the Dreyers, that small change made a world of difference.

Life with Celiac, One Recipe at a Time

Since Calvin’s diagnosis, Dylan and her husband Brian Fichera have adjusted their entire lifestyle. Their younger sons, Oliver and Rusty, are growing up in a gluten-free household — and so are Dylan’s fans, thanks to her regular Cooking with Cal segments on Today.

Whether they’re whipping up pancakes or pasta, the goal is simple: show that families can still eat well, even with dietary restrictions.

But Dylan isn’t just cooking. She’s calling out the system, especially the lack of awareness in restaurants and the overwhelming costs at U.S. grocery stores.

“It’s kind of a nuisance to have Celiac Disease in the U.S.,” she said in an earlier interview. “It wouldn’t be as much of a nuisance over [in the UK].”

A Suitcase Full of Flour

That frustration came into focus during a 2024 trip to the UK. While there on assignment, Dylan found herself stockpiling gluten-free goods from British supermarket Waitrose. And not just for fun.

“I filled up my suitcase with mostly flour,” she joked. But the savings were serious.

“I can order it on Amazon for $20, or buy it in Waitrose for £2. It was absolutely shocking.”

She spent just £40 and left with a suitcase full of flour, cookies, biscuits, and bread. “The treats are different… just the bread — oh my gosh,” she added.

Advocacy in Action

More than just venting, Dylan Dreyer is turning her platform into a megaphone for change. She’s advocating for:

  • Clearer gluten-free labeling in stores and restaurants
  • More affordable food options for families
  • Increased awareness at public venues, from airports to stadiums

And while she’s never positioned herself as a crusader, fans have taken notice. Her transparency, humor, and “mom first” approach have made her a relatable voice for thousands of parents facing similar challenges.

A Mother’s Mission

In between weather reports and school drop-offs, Dylan Dreyer is proving that advocacy doesn’t always come with a podium. Sometimes it comes with a lunchbox.

With each recipe, each on-air mention, and each small win like Fenway Park’s, she’s helping to build a future where no kid has to sit out snack time, not even at the ballgame.
