Kevin Durant and Chris Paul had a heated exchange during a game on Thursday.
The incident took place during the Phoenix Sunsโ 120-109 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
The two former teammates clashed in the first half, leading to double technical fouls with three minutes remaining in the second quarter.
When the halftime buzzer rang, Durant kept shouting at Paul as they headed to the locker room.
Teammates from both sides stepped in to separate them before things could escalate further.
Durant discussed the tense moments with Paul
Durant shared his thoughts on Paulโs tactics after the game, saying, โHeโll try anything to win.โ
He further explained how Paulโs actions seemed designed to get under his skin: “I think he was just trying to mess with me. I think he was trying to provoke a reaction and take me out of the game.”
However, Durant later realized it was all part of Paulโs strategy: โAs we kept talking, I knew it was just a game for him, just a gimmick.โ
Durant finished with 22 points on efficient shooting and five rebounds in the loss, while Paul recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.
San Antonio secured the win without their star player, Victor Wembanyama, who was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a blood clot in his right shoulder.
