According to insights from a royal expert, efforts are being made by Prince William and Princess Kate to mend the longstanding rift between the Royal Family and Prince Harry along with Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a strained relationship with the royals ever since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, including a tense dynamic with the Prince and Princess of Wales, who have typically aligned with King Charles and Camilla, the Queen consort, in their disagreements with Harry.
Royal author Tom Quinn suggests that William and Kate are actively working to improve relations and find a peaceful resolution. They have reportedly reached out to Harry and Meghan, suggesting that the couple bring their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for a visit to the UK as a gesture of goodwill. However, Meghan, now 42 years old, has reportedly declined this invitation, indicating a roadblock in progress.
“There is no way Meghan would bring the children to the UK,” stated Quinn. “William and Kate have suggested that Meghan and Harry bring the children and that the two couples and their families try to make up, but the suggestion is not leading anywhere so far.”
Harry and Meghan currently reside in California with their children, having had limited interactions with the Royal Family post their departure. While Archie and Lilibet had the opportunity to meet with the royals during the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, they missed out on a planned visit before her passing in September of that year at the age of 96.
The tensions between Harry and William have been well-documented. The Sussexes openly expressed their grievances in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey and their Netflix docuseries. Additionally, Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ delved into the strained relationship with his brother, citing allegations such as William calling Meghan “difficult”, “rude”, and “abrasive”. The book also detailed a physical altercation where Harry claimed William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor”.
It appears that significant work lies ahead before any meaningful reconciliation between the brothers and their families can occur.
