Samir Handanovic’s future will continue to be with Inter. Despite receiving several offers in the summer, the goalkeeper has decided to bid farewell to playing football; he will take on an institutional role with the Nerazzurri.
After parting ways with Inter this summer, the goalkeeper didn’t find the offers received satisfactory to continue his career. That’s why Samir Handanovic decided to call it quits with playing football, but not his connection to Inter.
The Slovenian, in all likelihood, will take on an institutional role with the Nerazzurri: a collaborative position, but nothing has been finalized yet, pending final agreements. The parties will reconnect to define the details, with Handanovic waiting for a contract proposal signing the deal.
In the meantime, the former Inter captain will be present at the pre-derby meeting with the fans tomorrow, September 14, alongside Marco Materazzi.
Handanovic, what a history with Inter
The goalkeeper is quiting after 566 Serie A appearances, with an impressive 380 of them in Inter’s colors. This makes Handanovic the goalkeeper with the most appearances in the history of the Nerazzurri, surpassing Walter Zenga and becoming the tenth overall in the club’s history. In addition to being the goalkeeper with the most penalties saved in Serie A (32 out of 92 total faced), he was promoted to captain in February 2019.
In the last three seasons, he helped Inter secure 5 trophies, including the Serie A title under Antonio Conte and 4 cups (2 Supercups & 2 Coppa Italia) under the guidance of Simone Inzaghi.
