Dolly Parton’s long-awaited wish has finally been granted, thanks to Beyoncรฉ.
In a 2022 interview on “The Daily Show,” Dolly Parton expressed her desire for Beyoncรฉ to cover her iconic 1973 country hit “Jolene,” citing Beyoncรฉ’s talent and beauty as reasons why she’d love to hear a rendition from her. Parton exclaimed, “I donโt know if sheโs even got the message, but wouldnโt that be killer? I think sheโs fantastic and beautiful and I love her music.”
Beyoncรฉ indeed included a version of “Jolene” on her “Renaissance” sequel album, “Act II: Cowboy Carter.” The song is introduced by none other than Dolly Parton herself, who playfully references Beyoncรฉ’s lyrics from “Sorry” in her introduction.
Parton’s excitement was palpable as she exclaimed, “Wow, I just heard Jolene. Beyoncรฉ is giving that girl some trouble and she deserves it! Love, Dolly P.”
The revamped version of “Jolene” by Beyoncรฉ maintains the original melody but adds a contemporary twist to the lyrics. For instance, instead of “Iโm begginโ of you, please donโt take my man,” Beyoncรฉ sings, “Iโm warning you, donโt come for my man.”
Parton’s approval of Beyoncรฉ’s interpretation was clear, marking a momentous occasion in both artists’ careers.
