CNN chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins reportedly deleted a social media post after facing criticism for seemingly endorsing a defense fund for Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Collins’ post on X included a link to a newly launched website created by Mangione’s defense attorneys.
The 26-year-old faces multiple charges, including first-degree murde, stalking, and additional state and federal offenses in New York and Pennsylvania. He is accused of fatally shooting Thompson in Manhattan on December 4, 2024.

Mangione was apprehended on December 9 at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after an extensive multi-state manhunt. Since his arrest, his case has drawn significant attention, with supporters raising over $300,000 to fund his legal defense.
Collins faced huge online criticis
After conservative media reached out to Kaitlan Collins for comment regarding the controversy, a CNN spokesperson responded, dismissing the claims as baseless confirms Fox News.
The spokesperson stated that the story had “no merit” and clarified that Collins’ post was simply “reporting news surrounding the trial.”
Despite the clarification, Collins’ post faced backlash from several users on X, including The Spectator contributing editor Stephen L. Miller.
Criticizing her actions, Miller posted on Friday, “Real bottom of the barrel stuff. Even for @kaitlancollins,” adding to the growing criticism surrounding the incident.
New York Times best-selling author Jack Posobiec also weighed in on Kaitlan Collins’ post on X, adding to the criticism.
“CNN’s Kaitlan Collins promotes Luigi Mangione’s legal defense fund after Mangione [was] shown on video murdering a man in cold blood,” Posobiec wrote in a post on Saturday.
