Charles Barkley tells the exact reason what makes Michael Jordan greater than LeBron James

The ongoing debate over who is greaterโ€”LeBron James or Michael Jordanโ€”resurfaced on Wednesdayโ€™s episode of The Steam Room podcast, hosted by Inside The NBAโ€™s Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley.

A caller asked Barkley why he believes itโ€™s so obvious that Jordan had a better career than LeBron.

Barkley Dismisses the Debate

Barkley, never one to shy away from a basketball discussion, quickly dismissed the idea of comparing the two legends.

โ€œI donโ€™t get into the debate between Michael and LeBron because I think itโ€™s weak journalism,โ€ Barkley said. โ€œThey are both great, great, great. Michael Jordanโ€™s the best basketball player I ever played against. These young kids, they played against LeBron.โ€

However, what really caught Barkleyโ€™s attention was a stat Johnson mentioned the previous week.

โ€œI was kind of caught off guard last week when Ernie Johnson said LeBron was only like three behind Jordan in 30-point games and heโ€™s played seven more years. Thatโ€™s an astonishing stat,โ€ Barkley noted.

The Surprising Stat That Stands Out

To Barkleyโ€™s point, the numbers are eye-opening. James, now in his 22nd season, has played 442 more games than Jordan, who retired after 15 seasons.

Despite that longevity advantage, Jordan still holds a slight edge in regular-season games with 30 or more pointsโ€”562 to LeBronโ€™s 558, according to StatMuse. Even when factoring in playoff performances, James only surpassed Jordan in this category last March.

โ€œAs great as LeBron is, heโ€™s still behind Michael in 30-point games, and heโ€™s played seven more seasons,โ€ Barkley emphasized.

No Disrespect to LeBron, But the Numbers Speak for Themselves

Barkley made it clear that his stance doesnโ€™t come from any disrespect toward LeBron, whom he deeply admires.

โ€œEven if you take LeBron as the GOAT, you wouldnโ€™t have known that,โ€ Barkley said. โ€œAnd Iโ€™m never gonna say anything bad about LeBron because heโ€™s an amazing man and a hell of a player.โ€

While the LeBron vs. Jordan debate will likely never be settled, Barkleyโ€™s argument highlights a key point: longevity doesnโ€™t always equal dominance. And when it comes to scoring milestones, Jordanโ€™s legacy remains as strong as ever.
