Prince Harry made important Christmas calls on his own, without Meghan Markle. He also has another solo engagement lined up, and here’s what it’s about.
The Duke of Sussex serves as an ambassador for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity that supports children of fallen military personnel. On December 10, he will host a Christmas call as part of a charitable event.
Understanding that the holiday season can be particularly difficult for those who have lost loved ones, Harry aims to connect with as many children as possible, offering his support and letting them know they are not alone.
“This is your chance to get to know the Duke better and learn what Christmas means to him,” the organization stated. Harry has been supporting this charity since 2017, according to The New York Post.
The Prince has also shared that he deeply understands the pain of losing a parent at a young age, as he was just 12 years old when his mother, Princess Diana, tragically passed away in a car accident in Paris.
What now for the pair?
Harry and Meghan, who previously appeared together at most public events, have recently started attending separately. In October, Meghan attended the LA Gala honoring the Children’s Hospital and an event for the #HalfTheStory Project on her own.
Prince Harry, on the other hand, has taken on several solo engagements. On November 8, he and Meghan did release a joint video message for the Global Ministerial Conference on Violence Against Children in Colombia.
It has also been reported that King Charles did not include them on the guest list for the Christmas celebration at Sandringham. According to a source for Closer, the couple will instead celebrate the holidays at their Montecito home with their children, Archie and Lilibet, and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
Even if they had been invited, the well-known couple likely wouldn’t have traveled to Britain due to ongoing security concerns.
Earlier this year, Prince Harry lost a legal battle with the British government over these issues. “For now, they will only travel to the UK for special occasions or pre-planned visits,” the source added.
As a reminder, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been married since 2018. Two years later, they decided to step down from their royal duties, initially relocating to Canada before settling in California.
