The words of the RedBird and Rossoneri boss on the course of the season, injuries, and Pioli’s results:
LONDON – “AC Milan is the second most successful club in Europe, behind Real Madrid, and this is thanks to Berlusconi. But what he did, can no longer be done. I also want to win, but the point is to win consistently, and above all to be competitive consistently.” These are the words of Gerry Cardinale, the patron of RedBird and Milan, who was a guest in London at the FT Business of Football Summit 2024 along with his personal consultant, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Cardinale on Ibrahimovic and the new stadium
Speaking specifically about the former Swedish footballer, Cardinale added: “He has the authority to be my voice when speaking with staff and players. His way of communicating with the players is as effective as if the ownership were speaking directly to them. I don’t need to go speak in the locker room; he goes for me. Stadium? We have made more progress in 18 months than anyone else in Italy. I love San Siro; it’s a privilege to play there. But if we can earn more with a new stadium, then the answer is categorically yes.”
Cardinale: “We are not satisfied”
Finally, on the season and Pioli’s performance so far: “We are not satisfied with not being in first place, but we will get there. Considering it’s a young team, we’re not doing badly; there is still room to grow. We are disappointed by the injuries; it’s not acceptable not to be able to use all the players we invested in. It’s another area where we need to improve. Me and Ibra are working to change things, there will be changes”
