Ex Milan and Real Madrid coach Capello spoke exclusively with ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ touching on many topics, including Inter’s amazing midfield and Calhanoglu’s class
How far is Inter’s midfield from being among the best in Europe? Not very, not far at all, explained the guru of Italian football Fabio Capello. The former coach of Milan, Juventus, and Real Madrid has no doubts:
‘No one in Italy can play like Calhanoglu in the midfield. Very few teams in the world have midfielders so adept at attacking space, supporting the forwards by getting into the box, finding them with great passes or arriving to help the defence anytime when they are in trouble.’
The strength of this Inter lies in the midfield. Fabio Capello is certain of this: ‘No one in Italy has a reference point like Calhanoglu. And then the team has Barella, Mkhitaryan and Frattesi. I don’t see any team in the world having a better midfield right now. Inter can fight anyone with this midfield. They are second to none, including Real Madrid and Manchester City‘
More solutions than Manchester City? — ‘Well, if we talk about complete squads, Guardiola’s team is still a step above. Today, City plays with a small weakness tho: without De Bruyne, they lack a genius, a player of enormous quality.”
