Cannavaro: ‘I wanted to coach Napoli, but this is what happened. Scudetto? An easy prediction’

The World Cup champion and former Italian player spoke exclusively to Sport Mediaset.

Fabio Cannavaro is eager to return to coaching, especially after the highly successful Chinese adventure, where he won two championships. During an exclusive interview with Sportmediaset.it he spoke on many different topics:

How did it go with Napoli? Are you disappointed?
“There was nothing actually. On the occasion of Napoli-Empoli, I went to watch the match, and De Laurentiis placed me near him out of respect. Did I really believe I could become Napoli’s coach? If they don’t call you, how can you believe it? Now they have found a new coach in Mazzarri. Let’s hope he can resolve the situation.”

Have you received calls from China?
“In Asia, fortunately, the market is different. I worked a lot there, and they appreciated the work I did. I also won 2 championships. I don’t decide to stay still, I want to coach; but when others choose to leave you at home what can you do? My project is to coach, hoping the right opportunity comes.”

Do you hope for a call from Serie A?
“Every call has to be considered, whether it’s from Italy, Europe, or beyond. But if I am only judged for the Benevento experience, I will never find a job. Look at De Zerbi: his first years went badly; now he coaches in the Premier League.”

Did the match-fixing case surprise you?
“These are things that are not pleasant; players obviously need help. They have fallen into these situations, and they clearly need help. Players need to understand that they must respect the rules.”

Who do you think is the favorite to win the Serie A?
“The championship is still long, but Inter is the strongest team. Juventus are doing well. Then there are also Milan and Napoli that can come back.”
