Fans rejoice as a familiar face reappears on America’s Newsroom with a new co-anchor by her side
Fox News viewers were in for a welcome surprise on Monday, July 28, as Dana Perino returned to America’s Newsroom after an extended break. But co-anchor Bill Hemmer was notably absent.
Instead, Perino was joined by Bill Melugin, who filled in for Hemmer while fans speculated about both anchors’ time off. The on-air reunion of Dana and the morning news desk was enough to send her followers into celebration mode.
“Will you please come back to work! Miss you so dang much!” one fan commented on a recent Instagram photo of Dana and her dog Percy.

Across social media, Fox loyalists quickly reacted to the unexpected hosting duo. On X (formerly Twitter), one viewer joked:
“OMG. Dana Perino is at work today! It’s a miracle. The morning show should be Bill Hemmer, who also takes way too many days off, and Bill Melugin. Why the big secret of Perino’s vacations?”
Another viewer praised the new pairing, writing: “Great reporting and great job with Dana Perino this morning on America’s Newsroom.”
Perino had previously announced her vacation plans live on air, and Hemmer also mentioned her time away to viewers. Still, fans were eager for her return and happy to see her back in her seat.
A Career That Started at the White House
Dana Perino has been a staple at Fox News since 2009, joining the network after serving as White House press secretary under President George W. Bush. She was the first woman to hold the role under a Republican president.
Her time at the White House wasn’t without drama. During a 2008 press conference in Baghdad, Perino was injured amid the chaos when a journalist threw his shoes at President Bush. The infamous incident left her with a black eye.
Before leaving government service, Perino was even nominated by President Barack Obama to serve on the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
Married since 1998 to English businessman Peter McMahon, Dana Perino continues to bring calm, clarity, and credibility to the Fox News airwaves, even when half the anchor desk is MIA.
