Beatboxing nuns go viral with joyful Catholic TV performance – Video

Two Brazilian nuns have taken the internet by storm after a surprise beatboxing and dancing performance on Catholic television. The clip went viral, racking up over 4 million views and changing the way many see modern religious life.

Sister Marizele Rego, 44, and Sister Marisa de Neves, 41, lit up the studio of TV Pai Eterno during a live segment last Tuesday. The two were there to promote a vocational retreat, but what started as an interview quickly turned into a full-blown musical moment.

From Gospel to Groove

Sister Rego began singing her original track, Vocação de Amar e Servir (“Vocation to Love and Serve”), and then seamlessly broke into a beatbox rhythm, while Sister de Neves hyped her up with a joyful two-step. The duo was soon joined by Deacon Giovane Basto, who couldn’t resist getting in on the fun.

What was supposed to be a short promo turned into a viral sensation.

“We know it’s something of the moment, our real and daily life continues!” Rego told Brazil’s G1 news outlet.

But behind the viral moment is a powerful mission.

Faith Meets Recovery

Both sisters belong to the Copius Redemption Congregation in Ponta Grossa, in southern Brazil. Their ministry focuses on supporting young people recovering from drug addiction, and they’ve found that music isn’t just a passion, but a powerful tool for connection.

“Beatboxing, dancing, music… are essential for us to create bonds,” said Sister Rego. “And in recovery, bonds are everything.”

Dancing with Purpose

For both women, music and movement have been part of their lives long before the convent. Rego, who studied veterinary medicine, fell in love with singing during a church mass at age 19. She now has over 109,000 Instagram followers.

“I was invited to sing the psalm at mass, and I never stopped!” she recalled.

Sister de Neves also found her calling through rhythm, starting out in dance classes as a child before joining a local youth group.

“I have always loved dancing, and in the convent I can live this gift that God gave me,” she said.

Spreading the Message

The Copius Redemption Congregation applauded the sisters for their authenticity and joyful witness.

“Consecrated life is joyful, lively, and profoundly human,” the congregation said in a statement. “Two missionaries who bear witness to a faith that sings, dances, and evangelizes with the heart.”
