Jillian Shriner was arrested this week in Los Angeles for attempted murder after allegedly aiming a handgun at police officers during an active manhunt near her home.
The 51-year-old author and wife of Weezer band member Scott Shriner sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during the incident, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The dramatic confrontation occurred on Tuesday in the Eagle Rock neighborhood, where LAPD officers were searching for suspects involved in a hit-and-run case. Authorities said three male suspects had fled into a nearby residential area, prompting officers to canvass the surrounding homes.
Police Say Shriner Aimed a Firearm at Officers
According to a police statement released Wednesday, officers were searching a backyard when they noticed a womanโidentified as Shrinerโin the yard of an adjacent home. She was allegedly armed with a handgun.
“Officers issued multiple commands for Shriner to drop the weapon, but she refused,” the LAPD said. Moments later, officers opened fire when she allegedly pointed the gun in their direction, striking her.
Initial reports were unclear about whether she had fired at officers, but by Thursday, LAPD sources told ABC News they had recovered both video footage and a spent shell casing that suggest she discharged her weapon once during the encounter.
Following the shooting, Shriner reportedly returned into her home. She later exited with another woman and a child before being taken into custody without further incident. Police recovered a 9mm handgun from her residence and confirmed that no officers or bystanders were injured.
Despite the chaos, authorities confirmed that Shriner had no involvement with the original hit-and-run case. One of the three male suspects in that incident was later detained by the California Highway Patrol, while the other two remain at large.
Shriner was absentee booked for attempted murder while receiving treatment at a local hospital. She posted $1 million bail and was released on Wednesday. Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 30.
The LAPD has confirmed that the officer-involved shooting is currently under active investigation.
