The Basque coach on the eve of the San Siro match: “By playing to give our all, we are here aiming for the top spot.”
The Real Sociedad is contending for the top spot in Group D against Inter in a decider match at the ‘San Siro‘ with two out of three possible outcomes working for the Spanish team. However, coach Imanol Alguacil is well aware of the challenge in facing Simone Inzaghi’s team away in Milan: “If we start calculating, we will surely lose,” Alguacil commented in a press conference. “We want to take the field and go for the win, as always.”
Pressure for results exists for both Inter and Real Sociedad:
“We feel the pressure because we want to win. We know Inter; they played in the final last season, and if we are here, it’s because of our merit. We want to be competitive against Inter, aiming to win. We only think about that.”
Despite being one of the strongest teams in Europe in both the Champions League and Serie A, Inter stil makes few mistakes:
“Absolutely, it’s one of the strongest teams in Europe, they are favorites to with the CHampions League” Alguacil remarked. “If we were to look at the individual players, we shouldn’t even take the field because we’re talking about a top team, with a top squad, and a top coach. In the first match, we were highly competitive and we are the only team to have made them suffer this season. Let’s see if we can repeat that.”
Since the 1-1 draw in San Sebastian, Inter has further improved:
“Although they have shown tremendous growth, I don’t think they have changed significantly. In the first leg, they had few chances, but they capitalized on them. It will be a different game from here at San Siro.”
The Meazza stadium is poised to be a significant factor:
“It’s a beautiful stadium with a lot of history, but we are not afraid. We come here with respect and humility, but no fear. We didn’t think we would come this far, but now we want to continue our dream.”
