In a heartwarming moment at Lenox Elementary School, Regina Benzing New York, a teacher, was overwhelmed with emotion as her son, U.S. Airman Eric Benzing, made a surprise appearance during a school assembly.
Regina was leading the assembly, reading the names of students honored as “Student of the Month.” Unbeknownst to her, one of those names was her own son. As she called out his name, Eric, who had been deployed in Germany since September, walked towards her with open arms.
The gymnasium erupted with cheers and students waved American flags as mother and son embraced. Regina couldn’t hold back her tears, expressing her joy and relief at finally being able to hug her son again. “I’ve been waiting for a long time to put my arms around him,” she said.
This touching reunion highlighted the emotional sacrifices made by military families and brought the entire school community together in celebration.
