Juventus ready to reward Max Allegri after the good results. There will be a new midfielder in town.
Juventus seems to be getting closer to bringing Kalvin Phillips to Turin as early as January. Giuntoli and Sporting Director Manna met with the agent of the Manchester City midfielder during their London trip, and the English player has given his approval for the move to Italy, even for just 6 months.
The reigning European champions, who own his contract, have opened up to the possibility of a straightforward loan. Further confirmation came from Pep Guardiola, who, in a press conference, indicated openness to the departure of the 1995-born player.
“I will sell all those players who want to leave,” said the Catalan on the eve of the clash with Chelsea, “and I would even sell them to Manchester United if the clubs and the player were happy. Someone will leave, and someone else will come in his place; only small clubs fear these moves.”
In short, there are indeed grounds for the deal to go through. The remaining obstacle is the salary, as Phillips earns around โฌ5 million per year. While not an exorbitant amount, even if divided in half, it adds to the operating costs of a club focused on balancing its financial books.
Moreover, limiting expenses would allow Juventus to target another midfielder, perhaps with more quality than the 27-year-old of Jamaican and Irish origins. Two gaps need to be filled, given the forced absences of Pogba and Fagioli.
