Allegri: “We lost to the league favorites. It’s been a tough week for us, but now we must go on”

The Juventus coach commented on the 0-1 against Inter: ‘Different paths and expectations between us and them. Inter were the favorites.’

Juventus suffered a defeat in the big match at San Siro against Inter due to Gatti’s own goal. This loss propels Inter towards the Serie A title. Coach Allegri commented, “We have different paths and expectations compared to them. The first half was tight, and they scored through an own goal. In the second half, the game opened up with chances for both sides, but Inter were precise on the counter. No complaints about the team; let’s put behind a tough week and move on.”

Juventus lacked a bit in technical skills, especially from some young talents who struggled in the game. Allegri explained, “I thought about pairing Chiesa with Yildiz, but at that moment, we were better physically. I tried to maintain balance, considering Chiesa’s limited training, but we should have been more precise. Every team goes through a rough patch, and this week, we dropped some points. We need to be good at overcoming this phase in our journey.”

In the second half, Juventus attempted to equalize by pushing forward but couldn’t make a significant impact in the opposition’s box. Allegri noted, “Inter is efficient in the final third, experienced, and has personality. They are used to playing at this level, while it’s been three years for us. It was a step forward that we needed to take, but now we must regroup for the rest of the season. We need to work on and fix some things.”

Allegri acknowledged Inter as the top force in the league: “Being in this position in the standings was unexpected for us at the start of the season. The media hype up this rivalry, but our paths and expectations are different. We’re upset because we could have turned around this lost game. Inter is the favorite for the title, but that’s not new. If we can stay close, we’ll see. However, we must also be wary of Milan because surprises are always around the corner.”
