Sarri: “We don’t have the right mentality for these games. In the next round I want Barcelona”

The Lazio coach after the defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League: ‘We paid for everything we did wrong.’

Maurizio Sarri expressed bitterness after the defeat against Atletico Madrid, a loss that didn’t affect their already secured qualification but forces them to enter the December 18th draw as group runners-up.

“I’m angry because we paid for every mistake we made and nullified everything we created. In the first 10 minutes of each half, there was a gap in determination between us and them. Despite playing in a challenging stadium against a strong opponent, I think we did our best.”

In the draw for the Round of 16, I hope to get Barcelona because they are the only team I haven’t faced in my career among those available. It would be a nice experience for us.”

The mentality seems to remain a weak point for his team: “Are we playing carefree? Maybe we are doing it too much right now… We’ve struggled in other competitions in the past seasons too. This indicates that we don’t have the level of mental toughness required for these stages.”
