The lackluster performance against Inter, the missed penalty, and the non-exceptional game against Lecce: Big Rom’s goal is a liberation.
It hasn’t been an easy week for Romelu Lukaku. It wasn’t an easy game for Roma. After the defeat to Inter one week ago, Lukaku missed a penalty against Lecce, which complicated the things for the ‘Giallorossi’.
The goal seemed cursed. His left foot seemed bewitched. Roma coldn’t score and Lukaku coulndn’t help until… until he hit the winner under the Curva Sud, in the injury time. So much so that at the final whistle, Romelu burst into tears on the field.
He was first comforted by Nuno Santos, then Mourinho (with a kiss on the head), and finally, his teammates. Belotti, the one he keeps on the bench, was among the first to embrace him. Roma is likea family; united.
In the post-match interview, Mourinho talked about the post-match kiss with Lukaku: “It’s the second penalty he’s missed with me (laughs). Only those who dare to take penalties miss them. Romelu is an extremely emotional guy. He’s sensitive, and when he misses a penalty in the first minute, his heart and soul cries. That’s why with the goal scored at the end, he can now sleep better. He’s a guy with a Golden heart.
