Simeone after the game: “I want to coach Lazio in the future. The fans are special. Provedel?…”

Diego Simeone’s words at the press conference after the Champions League match played at the Olimpico against Lazio:

At the end of the game, to analyze his team’s performance, Diego Simeone spoke at the press conference. Here are his words.

What hurts more the ending with the goalkeeper’s goal or Correa’s mistake just before that?

“We can’t do much about it now can’t we? In the first half, we had some difficulties, but in the second half, we improved. However, we didn’t close the game, and that’s why Lazio had such a thrilling ending.”

What did you feel during the support from the entire stadium?

It’s important what memories you leave behind at the places that you’ve been, even as a person. I felt and feel a lot of affection from the fans; I spent a lot of time in Rome, and I’ll never forget it.”

What do you think about Provedel’s goal, have you ever seen a goal scored by a goalkeeper like that?

“The last play of the game, a counterattack that started previously, they passed the ball, the goalkeeper entered the box like a striker, finishing the play with a great header. It’s significant; the game was ending, and it’s beautiful when you’re watching from the other side, you can only enjoy that moment, as everyone did tonight.”

A few years ago, you told us, ‘Mark these words, one day I will coach Lazio.’ Do you still feel that way?

“I’ve always said that I have great memories from all the places that I have been before as a player. Without a doubt, I would like to experience those feelings as a coach at Lazio. But there is a great coach like Sarri now there, and we are doing a long-term job here at Atletico Madrid.”

Today, none of the regular midfielders were there. Do you think you can recover some of them soon?

“We will definitely field eleven players; there won’t be any problems, we never complain.”
