Pioli after getting smashed: “We didn’t start badly in the first 4 minutes. Apologies to the fans? NO”

The Rossoneri coach commented on the 5 goals conceded to Inter: “Now, it’s time to focus on the Champions League; the team won’t have any mental traumas after the game, we are mature now.”

After losing 5-1 to Inter, Stefano Pioli wasn’t looking for excuses. He has lost all the last five derbies, and most of them were lost in a similar manner, conceding goals in the early minutes. After the game the ‘Rossoneri‘ coach said:

“Up until 3-1, we were still in the game, it’s a heavy defeat considering how we played, but we have to think about the Champions League right away. The team won’t have any psychological issues. We are mature now.”

“Conceding goals at moments when we could have turned things around was a big blow for us. It has to be said that we were careless in dealing with their counterattacks. That’s how it went for us tonight. Losing the derby always hurts, but I will repeat, until it was 3-1, we were still in the game.”

The coach continued: “Inter won because in certain situations, they were better than us. We talk about the approach, but in the first 4 minutes of the game, we didn’t start badly. They are a well-organized and tough team. They waited for us. We should have spread our team and play wider but the game went the way they wanted.”

NO EXCUSES

When was asked if he feels the need to apologize to the fans after conceding 5 goals. His response was clear: “No! We are disappointed, of course, we didn’t want to concede 5 goals. But apologize? Why should I? We didn’t lose on purpose.”
