Marotta: “Lautaro is the true lider of this team. We are not favorites against Milan”

The Nerazzurri’s CEO spoke at the Gentleman Awards: ‘Lautaro is the leader of this team, the derby against Milan…’

Present at the Gentleman Award, Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta provided an overview of the team’s start to the season under coach Inzaghi, starting with the upcoming derby on Saturday against AC Milan:

“The derby against Milan holds a special value, it’s a historical and enjoyable rivalry. We hope for a positive spectacle and a great football match.

Are we the favorites? No, it’s the beginning of the season, and the schedule plays a role. We have a team with a mix of experienced players and youngsters. The coach’s work is showing results, and we are ready to play a great game.”

“Apart Inter and Milan I believe the contenders for the Serie A title remain the same as in recent years. There’s a strong balance, and we shouldn’t forget Juventus, Napoli, Lazio, Roma, and even Atalanta, which has now firmly established itself among the top teams.”

Among the various topics discussed was Frattesi’s outstanding performance with the national team. For Marotta, it confirms the wisdom of a costly but successful investment:

“There’s satisfaction in being Italian and witnessing the national team deservedly win. In yesterday’s starting eleven, there were four Inter players, which means we are moving towards a different model, a solid foundation to achieve certain goals. The future can only be better.”

A team made of Italians and true Interisti. Like Dimarco and Frattesi Captain Lautaro Martinez, who may not be Italian but is certainly an Inter fan at heart:

“We entrusted the captain’s armband to Lautaro, which gives him a deserved responsibility after his growth over the years. He is young, and he will have the opportunity to prove his improvement based on his objective value as a champion, he is the leader of this team.

Finally, a comment on Pogba, a player in turmoil whom Marotta is emotionally attached to: “I share a deep affection with Pogba. We signed him on a free transfer from Manchester and then sold him for more than 100 million euros, which was something extraordinary.

I can say he is a serious guy, but I don’t want to delve into what happend because it’s not my role. There is undoubtedly sadness about this situation. I hope this serves as a lesson to many young players. I wish him a fast resolution, but I can guarantee that he is a serious professional.”
