Insults towards Taylor… 4-match suspension for Mourinho. The club and the fans punished as well

The Portuguese coach has been penalized for verbally abusing one of the match officials. The ‘Giallorossi’ have been fined a total of 55,000 euros and are required to reimburse the Hungarian federation for the damages caused by their own fans.

The anticipated scenario has become a reality, UEFA has dealt a severe blow to Josรฉ Mourinho, imposing a 4-match suspension following his offensive remarks and insults towards referee Taylor at the Europa League final against Sevilla.

However, that’s not the end of it. AS Roma will be fined 50,000 euros for the misconduct of their fans during the match (use of smoke bombs and fireworks), and an additional fine of 5,000 euros for improper conduct by the team.

Moreover, within thirty days, the Roman club must initiate contact with the Hungarian federation to reimburse the damages caused by their supporters to the stadium.

AS Roma will appeal the decision, although the Portuguese coach’s words after the match were undoubtedly very strong and provoking. “The referee seemed Spanish,” “Hopefully, next year he’ll go and do his sh*t in the Champions League“.

The ending was dramatic as well, as Mourinho again confronted referee Taylor in the stadium’s garage, repeatedly shouting at him: “You are a f***ing disgrace,” “You have no f***ing shame on your f***ing face,” “f**k off.”

The following day, however, the situation worsened as several troublemakers among Roma’s fans, upon encountering Taylor and his family at Budapest airport, insulted and threw water (one even threw a chair) at the referee, to the point that one person was apprehended by the police.

The images and videos circulated on the web were devastating, and many thought that Mourinho’s serious accusations had contributed to inflaming the situation.

Nonetheless, AS Roma, emphasized the mistakes made by the English referee in an official statement standing by their coach.

The real setbackfor AS Roma is losing Jose Mourinhos for the majority of their group stage matches. After all, UEFA President Ceferin was clear two days ago: “Things have gone too far. We need to punish bullying against referees.”

Considering that Roma has received 22 red cards in both league and cup matches since Mou took charge, the tolerance of the governing body (UEFA) towards the Portuguese has reached its limit. We now await the appeal process.
