Whoopi Goldberg doubles down on claim that bakery refused her service over her progressive views

Somehow they were able to accept an order of a different 48 of the same dessert when somebody else called without using my name,” the ‘View’ co-host claimed.

Whoopi Goldberg is standing firm on her claim that a bakery refused to fulfill her dessert order for her birthday. The View co-host addressed the situation in an Instagram video posted on Thursday, Nov. 14, saying, โ€œThere seems to be a lot of talk about the dessert I requested for my birthday show.โ€

Goldberg, who celebrated her 69th birthday the day prior with a tray of Charlotte Russe desserts on The View, initially suggested that the bakery might have declined her order due to her โ€œprogresive politics.โ€ While she didnโ€™t name the establishment, Entertainment Weekly later identified it as Holtermann’s Bakery in Staten Island. The bakeryโ€™s owner denied Goldbergโ€™s allegations.

In her follow-up video, Goldberg elaborated, saying, โ€œA few weeks before my birthday, we were told they couldnโ€™t process the order because of an equipment failure.โ€ She added, โ€œBut somehow, they were able to accept an order of a different 48 of the same dessert when somebody else called without using my name.โ€

Despite the ordeal, Whoopi Goldberg didnโ€™t let the incident spoil her birthday celebrations. โ€œItโ€™s all okay, yโ€™all, because I enjoyed my delicious dessert and had a happy, sweet birthday,โ€ she shared in her follow-up video. โ€œNothing better than that.โ€

She double down on her comments

Whoopi Goldberg continued to address the controversy surrounding her birthday dessert, explaining, โ€œThey said their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway.โ€ She added, โ€œWhich is why Iโ€™m not telling you who made them.โ€

Goldberg went on to suggest, โ€œIt canโ€™t be because Iโ€™m a woman, but perhaps they did not like my politics.โ€ Despite the ordeal, she emphasized the positive, saying, โ€œBut thatโ€™s okay because, you know what? This is my motherโ€™s celebration. Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you, everyone, for celebrating my birthday today.โ€

Meanwhile, Holtermann’s Bakery owner Jill Holtermann, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, refuted Goldbergโ€™s implication. โ€œIt was not because of political affiliations,โ€ Holtermann clarified, explaining the issue was tied to โ€œtrouble with our boilers.โ€

Holtermann further noted that Goldberg had requested the dessert for two events: a Nov. 6 talk show appearance and her birthday show. The bakery declined both requests, with Holtermann saying, โ€œI didnโ€™t want to make a commitment that I canโ€™t carry through.โ€
