Georgia singer Peedy Chavis wowed the judges on “The Voice” with his cover of Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel.”
The 19-year-old from Lawrenceville caught John Legend’s attention just 15 seconds into his performance, with Blake Shelton quickly following. Both judges praised Chavis’ talent, with Shelton saying the performance “fired the hell up” and expressing his admiration for Elvis.
Chavis shared that his love for Presley began in childhood, thanks to his mom. His mother, Lisa, recalled how he would make up words to Elvis songs before he knew the lyrics, which led her to buy him a little white suit like Elvis’s.
Chavis’ audition was a highlight of the season premiere, which introduced Ariana Grande as a new judge alongside Shelton, Legend, and Kelly Clarkson. Chavis aims to revive classic music for a new generation, calling this opportunity the best heโs ever had to showcase his talent.
Although Clarkson and Grande didnโt turn their chairs, they were both impressed, with Clarkson jokingly asking if Chavis was from another era and Grande saying his performance had her dancing in her seat. Legend praised Chavis’ tone and range, expressing his eagerness to work with him. Ultimately, Chavis chose Blake Shelton as his coach for the season.
